Spent $30 On Accomodation In Berlin!

Kind of a similar title (and to be honest, it’s going to be basically the same post) to the England post.

I got a wonderful housesit in Berlin for two whole weeks!!! The job seemed pretty straight forward, “look after my two cats over Christmas and New Years”. I applied and luckily got it!

TIP: If you’re on Trusted Housesitters, write big messages to people, it makes you stand out more and that way people don’t necessarily have to check your profile! And it makes you actually seem interested!

I arrived the day before the family left, and quickly got to run through everything and meet them. I woke up the next morning to an empty house. I learned very quickly that these cats were damn vocal 😅 They let me know whenever they wanted to go outside or eat. They weren't super affectionate either which I liked cause I'm not too much of a cat person.

At first the owners said that my mom wasn't allowed to stay at the apartment over night for Christmas, but later changed their minds for some reason that I didn't question! So that was nice for me and my mom that she could stay with me for free! She unfortunately wasn't a fan of the cats, as like I said, they're a little too vocal and when I'd let them outside before bed they'd sometimes come back at 3am meowing so loudly that they'd wake my mom up. Or they'd come in to her room at night and pounce on her! My sister and mike didn't get to sleep at the apartment but were welcome to come over every day, which was also really nice!

The owners came back New Year's Day, but because I found a cheap flight to Copenhagen Wednesday (NY Day was Monday) I just found the cheapest hostel I could and stayed there for two nights. I know Berlin is normally a pretty cheap place to stay/live but I would not have stayed as long as I did without that housesit. Plus it was so nice having a place where my family could come and hangout, where we could actually cook dinners and just have a fun time without being in like a hotel room or something. And it was a bonus that it was two cats I was looking after and not a dog, so it was really easy.

To anyone looking to travel for cheap I would recommend this site over and over again, especially if you like animals. It's honestly the best way to travel in my opinion. And I think it'd be silly to miss out on these really amazing experiences. Sure you meet people easier in a hostel but it's kinda fun living like a local and being able to cook your own food!
