The One Time I Went to That One Restaurant

I didn't eat out a lot in Reykjavik. Mostly because it was expensive AF. But I wanted to try out the fish and chip place that my childhood friend, and the girl I was living with (Abby) worked at.. plus I wanted to eat fresh fish! The place is called "Icelandic Fish and Chips" and it's a 3 minute walk from where I was staying, and right near the harbour. When I walked in (around 6 pm) I was greeted by one of the girls and she explained to me the menu. I could pick any fish of the day and some sides, or they had daily specials, that basically the kitchen creates with the fish that they caught that day. I decided to go with the Cod special. It came fried, on top of a mango salad and with some potatoes. Everything was amazing. The mango salad had maybe a bit too much mango.. I know, I know.. it's called "Mango salad"..but still! But I ate it all! I also had two Gull beers, an Icelandic light beer.. it was alright, nothing amazing. Abby wasn't working that night but her roommate was. Throughout my dinner her roommate kept looking at me, clearly recognising me but didn't know from where (I spoke with her earlier that morning :P), eventually she came up to me and asked if we knew each other. I told her I lived with her and you could tell she felt so bad for not knowing who I was. She told me that when I go to pay get her to check me out and she'd give me a discount. I asked for the dessert menu by the girl I assumed was serving me. I was then approached by 2 servers and the manager asking if I was ready to order, I said no. I was later told later by Abby that they don't have sections and when they see someone with a menu anyone and everyone goes to them :P I then ordered an espresso and one of their desserts. I don't remember what it was called but it was just chopped almonds and dates covered in chocolate. Pretty small, and not what I was expecting but it was pretty good. I didn't like the espresso though.. not sure if I'm just being picky cause I lived in Italy for a year or what! I paid a total of $40 with a discount.. not sure if it was a 15% or 50% discount as she was french and couldn't really understand her lol. Overall, I have this rule of not eating seafood unless I can walk to the ocean within 20 min and I think that's a pretty good rule, and so far I've had some pretty amazing sea food! When I left around 7.45 it was filling up quite a lot, so I wish I had come a little later to get the more lively atmosphere, but overall I had a great time, and great food! Would definitely reccomend.
