Living Downtown Reykjavik

Hello there (especially to my aunt Trish ;P),

Iceland was absolutely mind blowing! I wish I had stayed a little longer, but there is always my return flight as they let you do a 7 day layover with no additional coast! Reykjavik is crazy expensive. Like, beer is anywhere from $10-$15, the one time I went out for dinner I paid $40 and that was with a discount (because a friend of mine works there), and to find a place to stay (especially downtown) I don't even want to know. I booked a hostel and was paying roughly $450 for 4 nights, so when an old friend reached out and offered her place for free I couldn't have been happier! She lived right around the corner from where my hostel was so it was a great location. Had to walk 10 min to the cheap grocery store (It's called 'Bonus' for any of you going and want to save some money), 7 minutes to the main shopping street, 4 minutes to the liquor store (which, just so you know, you can't buy alcohol in grocery stores...and if you find some, it's not real!! Don't be fooled, like me :P), and basically in walking distance from everything you could need. She lived on Ranargarta street, in case anyone really needs to know!

I didn't go out a whole lot downtown, but everyone was telling me that the city centre is boring, and after one hour you've seen everything and want to leave.. But it's actually really cool and full of interesting history. I went on a free walking tour on day, and learned so much about about the city, I would definitely recommend it. There are tons of shops, restaurants, museums and just cool architecture throughout the town. Reykjavik is a lot bigger than just the city centre (obviously), I just made friends with cars so I never had to take the bus anywhere.. but anyone going should stay downtown unless you want to save a couple of $$ and just figure out their transit system!

Next time I go I just think I'm going to bug the people I met to host me..cause prices are ridiculous, like I've said, and will probably continue to say throughout my posts about my time in Iceland.
